Community Baseball Overview
Farmington Baseball Association (FBA) is committed to providing a fun, positive, and developmental baseball experience for players of all skill levels.
The primary purpose of the FBA Community Baseball is to administer quality baseball programs to children currently enrolled in Kindergarten through 12th grade in the Farmington area. The program emphasis is to develop and improve baseball skills, knowledge, and sportsmanship through noncompetitive and competitive environments. We seek to develop and maintain a fun learning environment while building healthy relationships among all players, coaches, umpires, parents and volunteers.
Our Kindergarten through 2nd Grade program is entirely in-house, with all teams made up of Farmington players. Beginning in 3rd Grade, FBA partners with neighboring communities and participates in the MBL Community League, giving players the opportunity to compete while continuing to develop their skills in a community-focused environment.
Player Eligibility
Players are eligible to participate in FBA Community Baseball if they:
- Reside within the Farmington School District 192 attendance area, or
- Live within the City of Farmington.
Ages
Players are placed based on their grade level for the current school year. To participate in the Kindergarten League, players must be at least 5 years old or enrolled in kindergarten. FBA offers programs for every grade level through high school, with the Big Cats program available for players in grades 9–12.
When
The season for Kindergarten through 8th Grade typically begins in mid-to-late April, weather and field conditions permitting.
The Big Cats season begins in early May.
League schedules will be posted once the number of teams in each division has been finalized, which is typically in mid-April.
Where
Kindergarten–2nd Grade
Practices and games are held at local fields in Farmington.
3rd–8th Grade
Practices are held in Farmington, while games take place in Farmington, Lakeville, Northfield, and other surrounding communities.
Big Cats (9th–12th Grade)
The Big Cats program competes in the South Valley Baseball League, with games primarily played throughout the south metro area.
Equipment Needed
Each player will receive an FBA jersey and hat as part of their registration.
Players are responsible for providing their own baseball pants, glove, helmet, and cleats. Molded cleats are required for Kindergarten through 8th Grade. Metal cleats are permitted beginning with the Big Cats program; however, many associations do not allow metal cleats on pitching mounds, so players should be prepared accordingly.
While team bats are available, we recommend that players use their own bat whenever possible. FBA also strongly recommends that all players wear a hard protective athletic cup.

Volunteer Requirement
Families with players in 1st Grade through 8th Grade are required to fulfill the FBA volunteer commitment. A $500 volunteer deposit will be collected per family and refunded upon completion of the volunteer requirement. Families are required to complete four volunteer hours per player, with a maximum of six hours per family.
REMINDER: A player will not receive their hat and jersey until a volunteer check is collected (does not apply to coaches).

Q: What time do games start, and when should players arrive?
A: Games typically begin at 6:15 p.m. Your coach will let you know what time players should arrive for warm-ups before each game.
League Overviews & Rules
Kindergarten & 1st Grade League Overview
FBA offers practices or games two nights each week beginning in late April through the end of June. Kindergarten plays on Tuesdays and Thursdays, while 1st Grade plays on Mondays and Wednesdays. Activities begin at 6:00 p.m. each evening.
No new inning shall begin after 7:30 pm. This is a noncompetitive league. No score is kept. Games are one hour and fifteen minutes. Every player bats every inning. A semi-soft baseball will be used. The coaches pitch to the players. Each batter can have 7 pitches. If after the 7th pitch, if the player has not hit the ball, then the ball is placed on a tee and the player's turn continues. There are no strike outs or walks. Players change field positions each inning. A non-competitive, end-of-season "tournament" is offered during which each team will play two games. At the conclusion of their tournament games, every player will receive a participation trophy recognizing their effort for both team and individual growth.
2nd Grade League Overview
FBA offers practices or games two nights per week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting at 6 pm, beginning in late April through June. Games are 5 innings in length.
An age-appropriate baseball will be used. The coaches will throw pitches utilizing a pitching machine. Each batter can have a total of 7 pitches or 3 swinging strikes, after which the player returns to the bench (not an out). Throughout the season, players rotate through all fielding positions. The score of each game is kept; however, league standings are not maintained.
A competitive, end-of-season tournament is offered. Trophies are awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams. All other players will receive a dedication award recognizing their effort to both team and individual growth.
3rd Grade League Overview
FBA offers practices or games two nights per week, typically on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting at 6 pm, from late April through mid-July.
Games are 6 innings in length and use an age-appropriate baseball. Players begin pitching in this league as the mechanics of pitching are introduced. This league has regular season and tournament umpires. Throughout the season, players rotate through all fielding positions. The score of each game is kept. However, league standings are not maintained.
The 3rd Grade League will play in the MBL Community League with partner associations from the surrounding area. The league comprises Farmington, Lakeville, and Northfield community teams and other programs.
This age group will participate in an end-of-season tournament.
4th/5th Grade League Overview
FBA offers practices or games two nights per week, typically on Monday and Wednesday evenings starting at 6 pm, beginning in late April through mid-July. NOTE: Days of the week may change for 2027 season.
Games are 6 innings in length and use an age-appropriate baseball. Players pitch, with all interested players given opportunities to pitch throughout the season. Games are umpired, and players rotate through all fielding positions over the course of the season, with position changes also made during games. The entire batting order hits each inning, and game scores are kept; however, league standings are not maintained, keeping the focus on player development and a fun, positive experience.
The 4/5 Grade League will play in the MBL Community League with partner associations from the surrounding area. The league comprises community teams from Farmington, Lakeville, Northfield, and other programs.
This age group will participate in an end-of-season tournament.
6th/7th/8th Grade League Overview
The 6/7/8 Grade League will play in the MBL Community League with partner associations from the surrounding area. The league comprises community teams from programs from Farmington, Lakeville, Northfield, and others.
This age group will participate in an end-of-season tournament.
Big Cats League Overview
9th-12th Grade will play in the South Valley Baseball League. Depending on registration numbers, we may have a team of 9th graders playing in their Ponies League (8th-9th). Remaining players in 9-12th grades will play in their Senior League (10th-12th). The League is comprised of 7 community baseball programs in largely the South Metro.
Days of Play:
- Ponies on Tuesdays and Thursdays
- Seniors on Wednesdays and Sundays
Both teams with play in the end of season tournament in mid-July.
